This course is offered as an elective for those interested in furthering their knowledge in science by studying objects found beyond earth’s atmosphere. Students will develop a basic knowledge of the universe by studying topics which include lunar behavior, gravity, light and telescopes, atoms and spectra, the sun, the formation and structure of stars, interstellar medium, the death of stars, and black holes. Experiments and activities will be performed that help strengthen their understanding of each of these topics and to provide a hands-on learning experience. Current astronomy missions and projects will be studied and evaluated throughout the semester.
