Now in his eighth year at WMAA, Mr. Williams serves the school as the Director of Teaching and Learning. In this capacity, Mr. Williams works to support the instructional program that students experience by collaborating with WMAA’s amazing teaching team, coordinating professional development opportunities, and facilitating school improvement processes. In addition to his formal role at WMAA, Mr. Williams also volunteers his time to lead the school’s early morning Weight Training Club.
Mr. Williams’ professional experience began with his teaching degree from Grand Valley State University in 2011. He graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in English and a minor in Sociology. While at GVSU, Mr. Williams was named the Outstanding Student in Secondary Education for his student teaching in Grand Rapids Public Schools. In 2018, Mr. Williams earned his masters degree in Educational Leadership, also from GVSU. Currently, Mr. Williams is continuing his education at Western Michigan University, pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership.
As part of his studies, Mr. Williams has had the opportunity to work in schools around the world, teaching in both the Netherlands and South Africa. He comes to West Michigan Aviation Academy with professional teaching experience from Union High School in Grand Rapids and Cartwright Public Schools in Phoenix, Arizona. Although he has enjoyed all of his unique teaching experiences, Mr. Williams is proud to have landed his career at West Michigan Aviation Academy. In his own words, “WMAA is a school that truly cares about all of its students and that follows through on its Mission, Vision, and Values. The culture amongst this staff is to support young people in any way possible, and I’m so glad to be a part of it.”
