Mr. Way is excited to start his 11th year at West Michigan Aviation Academy and currently holds the position of World History and AP US History Teacher, as well as Social Studies Department Chair. Prior to graduating from Michigan State University in 2008 with a BA in History and a minor in Geography, he spent 4 years in the Spartan Marching Band playing the alto saxophone.
Mr. Way aims to inspire a generation of students to become lifelong learners with the reading, writing, thinking, and character skills to tackle any challenge in their future. He hopes to provide students with a passion for the Core Democratic Values and be equipped with the agency to navigate the political, economic, social, and cultural forces that structure our lives with the aim of creating a more equitable and just world.
In his free time, Mr. Way loves spending time with his wife and 2 children, Arthur and Elliot. He enjoys his time reading books and staying up on current events, watching animal and historical documentaries, perpetually losing in his fantasy football leagues, watching real sports, riding bikes, and playing disc golf. He also enjoys playing the “best dad in the world” role by acting out my son’s imaginative scenarios with plastic dinosaurs and cars, catching fireflies and other insects, cleaning up scrapes and cuts, and changing diapers.
