Mr. Ratliff moved to Grand Rapids from the east side of the state in the summer of 2010. He graduated from Grand Valley State University in Spring, 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Secondary Education and a minor in History. While at GVSU, Mr. Ratliff received consistent recognition for persuasive and analytical writing skills in various competitions and is proud to be a part of back-to-back intramural basketball championship teams. This school year, Mr. Ratliff is teaching English 11, US History, Navigating Your Future, Current Issues, and Leadership. Mr. Ratliff is excited to have the chance to get to know the students at WMAA and teach a rich variety of content and skills.
Mr. Ratliff has been teaching and working with students in Grand Rapids for two years with GVSU’s Trio Upward Bound program and was happy to spend this past summer teaching English and tutoring students in all subjects. Mr. Ratliff’s undergraduate teaching experience was split between teaching English 9 at Union High School in Grand Rapids and teaching AP Literature, English 10 Composition, and Media Analysis at Hudsonville High School in Hudsonville, MI. Mr. Ratliff is excited to bring his background of diverse experiences into his classroom this year.
When not in school, Mr. Ratliff enjoys playing basketball, golf, watching football, and spending time with family and friends. Mr. Ratliff comes from a large family and has enjoyed learning many valuable life lessons from his three older brothers and one older sister. One of Mr. Ratliff’s favorite things to do is spend time with his niece and nephews.
Mr. Ratliff is very excited to continue his professional career at West Michigan Aviation Academy and inspire intrinsic motivation, critical thinking, and self-awareness in all of his students!
