Ms. Nelessen is originally from Merrill, Wisconsin which is a small town about three hours straight north of Madison. She stereotypically grew up hunting, fishing, cheering for the Packers and eating cheese. Ms. Nelessen enjoys trying a variety of things; during high school, she participated in forensics, choir, musical productions, and vocal competitions. She also played volleyball and basketball, and was on the leadership board of her high school’s community service organization.
She graduated from Calvin College in December of 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education, English with a minor in English as a Second Language. During her time at Calvin College, Ms. Nelessen was highly involved in campus life, as she is passionate about building community through servant leadership. As a resident assistant for on-campus housing, she was given the opportunity to lead and mentor over forty freshmen and sophomore women. During her final years at Calvin, Ms. Nelessen held the role of orientation leader and was blessed to walk alongside twenty-two incoming freshmen as they navigated their first semester of college.
West Michigan Aviation Academy stole Ms. Nelessen’s heart when she student taught under Mrs. Howard. When she graduated in December of 2014, she couldn’t stay away; she substitute taught in various classrooms at WMAA until she became a full-time staff member in May 2015.
Ms. Nelessen feels extremely blessed to have the opportunity to continue supporting the students and faculty at WMAA.
