Mr. McCarthy is originally from the western suburbs of Chicago. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2004 with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major of Accountancy. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served on active duty for over eleven years as a FA-18 Weapon Systems Officer (WSO). During that time, he deployed to the Middle East aboard the USS Harry S. Truman multiple times, as well as graduated from the Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN).
Upon separation from active duty, Mr. McCarthy became a naval reserve officer and earned his certification as a social studies teacher through Grand Valley State University’s Graduate Teacher Certification Program. He student taught at WMAA and looks forward to joining the WMAA staff in a full time position, teaching Economics and Intro to Aviation.
Mr. McCarthy, his wife and 3 children moved to the Grand Rapids area in 2015.
